In a Pig’s Skin

Question: How do you stop Muslim suicide bombers? Answer: bury them in pig’s skin.

It sounds like a joke, but this is a deadly serious matter.

On October 31, 2002, the very practical Russian authorities announced that the bodies of the Chechen suicide-murderers who had taken hostages in the Moscow Theater last week would be buried - wrapped in pigskins. Muslim Shahidi (Jihad martyrs) believe that their terrorist acts done in Allah’s name will grant them immediate access to heaven. But they also believe that if they are buried in contact with swine – pigs – they will be barred from heaven for eternity. Touché’!

The vast gulf separating Judeo-Christian belief from Muslim thought is no secret, but this seeming bit of pig-trivia is a bombshell in the right hands. It works on fundamental Muslims because of their beliefs. Wes Pruden documented several instances of the effective use of pork against Muslims in his article “How to break hearts and bend minds.”

ABC News.com also has published a somewhat more politically correct article “When History Repeats Itself” mentioning this same Muslim sensitivity over pork and some history of conflicts arising over it. ABC, predictably, portrays the issue as an example of how Westerners insult the beliefs of Muslims and arouse resentment against themselves. So 9-11 is just a well-justified reaction to our Western arrogance, right?

The world has little problem with moderate Islamics – those who don’t subscribe to the most radical of Muslim teachings. Such folk are very unlikely to blow themselves up in your presence so they can go immediately to heaven. The trouble stems from radical Muslims - Islamics who really believe their book and take seriously the promise that if they lose their lives in the battle to conquer unbelievers they get a free pass to heaven.

Fortunately, this serious aspect of their belief is also the gateway to their undoing. Islam, for all the praise heaped upon it by quaking American liberals, is a religion with a lot of serious contradictions and foolishness built into it. For our present purposes, that makes it particularly susceptible to psy-war.

Wes Pruden somewhat jokingly refers to the promise that Jihad suicide warriors each get to cohabit with 74 virgins in heaven. But he then mentions the grim prospect of dealing with multitudes of mothers in law. That might be funny, but the Russians, unlike our timid and faithless American leaders, have seized on the very simple tactic of using the Muslim’s foolish faith against them. And what a rich arsenal there is to be found there.

The lack of comparable American tactics in reaction to similar provocation is really quite telling. In the wake of 9-11, the President went to great lengths to assure the world that this was not a war of cultures or religions, when it patently was and is. He strained to distance himself and America from any hint that our Judeo-Christianity might have anything to say to the Islamics about such terror tactics. He treated it as a political – not a religious attack. And hence American reprisals have been military and political and decidedly not faith-based. Yet, if this war against radical Islam is to be won, the battle must be taken to the heart of the problem – their faith.

“Black Jack” Pershing’s use of the Muslim’s beliefs against them in the Philippines in the early 1900’s was not only pragmatic, but spoke of his own basis of faith in using the terrorists’ ill-based faith against them. And it worked. Pershing executed several terrorist leaders, informing them that they were about to be buried along with the carcasses of some pigs. He let one of them “escape” to tell his fellow-terrorists of their fate. That stopped the Islam-based terrorism in its tracks.

The Russians’ present actions therefore stand in stark contrast to the Americans’. The Russians, we were taught, are (or were) Atheists, and the Americans are Judeo-Christians. So the Russians do not believe (supposedly) in faith-based initiatives, and the Americans do. While the Russians took action for what are probably pragmatic reasons, they did actually addresses the “faith” of the Islamics head-on. The American leaders continue to cower before the Islamics’ “faith” and even publicly proclaim Islam as a “Religion of Peace.”

The American government is not taking any action at all against the premises of the Islamic terrorists. And so we continue to grapple uncertainly with Muslim Terrorism - a force that is terrifying and basically unstoppable to those who are unable or unwilling to deal with faith of any kind.

The scriptures record that “the Lord is known by the Judgment that he executes.” In this case, the American leaders - products of a culture busily rejecting faith, in the only country ever founded on the proud proclamation of Judeo-Christian faith – are now unable to grapple with a simple problem with a simple solution. Truly, He takes away the wisdom of the wise, when the “wise” reject Him.

Frankly, we deserve to be in this situation. And it is entirely fitting that the Russians should be our instructors. We think we are too civilized to employ such a remedy, and in rejecting the correctness of our faith, we condemn ourselves to suffer a fate for which there is no other recourse than to act on the premise of faith.

We will find our way again when we return and acknowledge that the Lord alone is God and He alone is able to protect all those who honor Him and obey Him. The solution will be found in a Pig’s Skin.
