"Need-To-Know" StatusBy Paul Hayden July 6, 2026I am putting myself on a “NEED TO KNOW” status for my life. What are you “paying attention” to? What is your focus in your life? “He's so poor, he can't even pay attention.” Have you heard that one? I am finding that I am changing how I go about life right now. How I “spend” my hours and even minutes is becoming more important. One thing that really bothers the heck out of me is the amount of useless, disgusting, intrusive, and downright wasteful advertising that bombards me. In my use of Facebook, which I know is questionable itself, I look for contact with friends, for information about life, history, other interests, and even relevant news. But so much of what shows up is useless and distracting advertising and just waste!!! So, I am gravitating to spending less time on the Book of Faces. If someone wants to get in touch with me, they can. I am reachable. Email. Texting. Messenger. X. And on and on and on… I have gotten as many as 60 to 100 junk emails in one day! The larger amount of it all is JUNK! I even get anywhere from 8 to 20 junk phone calls every day. Many of them say that my application for a loan has resulted in my being qualified for up to… sometimes as much as $350,000 or more! Yeah, right! I think I have already BLOCKED more than half the phone numbers in America already! What does all of this result in? Well, several months ago, I tried a little experiment. At night, I put my phone on silent mode - no rings except from my closest FAVORITES. So I tried it one day, so as to not be bothered while I am working or doing whatever I am doing. And I liked it!!! I STILL LIKE IT! So, I leave my phone on silent mode all the time, unless I am expecting a real important contact phone call from someone. Almost all NOTIFICATIONS through the phone are also silenced, except for Amber alerts and tornado/weather siren alerts. IT'S GREAT!!! My goal in much of this is to take more control of my own life and attention. My intention is to bring me more peace and quiet in my life. Yes, I am getting old, well, older. And I am enjoying it for the most part, even while realizing that aging is slowing things down and making some things more difficult. So give me a call sometime - but text first, so I will be expecting your call. And if I don't answer - leave me a message. On the holiday of July 4, I spoke at length with an old friend whom I met on the first day of our college experience - September, 1970. I spoke with several other friends that day as well. It was good! We only have so much time here on this Earth, and many are already gone and their time is up! Enjoy what you have, and do the best you can with it. Learn something new, reach out to an old friend, clean up or fix something, read a book, make some cookies, or just relax a while.

Paul Hayden is a Christian believer, and an American patriot, necessarily in that order. He is a student of the Bible, and is avidly interested in our role in the context of history, as understood through the heart and eyes of faith. Paul has lived and traveled somewhat widely, and now lives in the heartland of the U.S. (central Illinois), with his wife Donna - they have five grown children. Since December of 2016, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of www.ConservativeTruth.org."I was raised by a Christian minister, Kenneth Hayden, until his death when I was 10. Then my mom Bonnalee Hunt Hayden married a farmer. So I was raised in a very down-to-earth home. My faith has grown through the years, but both in conjunction with the institutional church and through small groups and individuals, including books as well as group settings, where deep, sincere faith is shared that aligns with Biblical truth."
