"Jesus Of Nazareth"

April 6, 2026

I have long thought that “we are one another's eyes and ears.” Each one of us cannot be aware of everything, and this is true in virtually every aspect of life. We need help in being aware of whatever we should be aware of, both good or bad.

Well, here is something good to be aware of.

“Jesus of Nazareth” is an incredible movie of about six hours that is now 49 years old! It was made in 1977, by Franco Zeffirelli, and included an amazing cast of well-known and highly acclaimed actors. We are watching it again right now, during this Easter season that highlights the death and resurrection of Jesus, and the faith that is based on this historic sequence of events.

The movie itself takes some license with the artistic portrayal of the Biblical events, naturally. But it does not get carried away with superfluous, speculative details or fantastic displays of supernatural wonders. Overall, there is a beautiful flow of events narrated in the New Testament, while staying quite true to the historical record.

The historical story of Jesus is really amazing, as attested by His being the most significant person in all of history. He did not really “start a religion” as some people think, but was - AND IS - the culmination of God's history with people. He is THE LINK between God and man, spoken of in the book of John as being the very “Word of God” in the flesh. He came to reveal God to us. This He did through His birth, His life, His teachings, and His death and resurrection.

For those who would avail themselves, this movie is a beautiful and sensitive portrayal of Jesus' life, very much worthy of seeing, and perhaps like me, even owning. We do not own many movies, but this is one absolutely worth watching repeatedly. It is like reading the Bible - once is definitely not enough. There is more to glean each time you encounter it.

If anyone is aware of any other treasures such as this movie, we would sure be open to suggestions, and perhaps even a review of such for others to see!

“We are one another's eyes and ears.”

God bless you all!

My faith has grown through the years, but both in conjunction with the institutional church and through small groups and individuals, including books as well as group settings, where deep, sincere faith is shared that aligns with Biblical truth."
