"Better Get Ready!"By Paul Hayden March 9, 2026"Better get ready!" Ready for what? For whatever is coming next. Ultimately, we need to be ready to “meet our Maker.” You often hear that one. What does that even mean? Are you ready to go? We have recently been doing some necessary end-of-life planning in our household. For us, that means cleaning out some nooks and crannies, getting rid of some “stuff” that we don't use or need anymore, and even trying to identify what some things even are or what they go to. It also means doing some paperwork about our “stuff” - like who has a say in how our “stuff” gets divied up among our beloved children or friends. And deciding on who gets to have something of a final say on certain end-of-life medical issues. YUK! Who likes thinking about such things? Well, certainly lawyers do, as they charge hundreds of dollars per hour to discuss and formalize these things on paper. But the rest of us, not so much. I guess it is necessary to do, so our heirs can get our stuff from us. Then, I go and look up “heirs” and find this: “Heirs are determined by law when no will exists, whereas beneficiaries are specifically named in a will or trust.” They have legal language for everything!!! And this old guy often says, “Why can't they leave things alone and make it all easier rather than more difficult?” I guess there's a reason for it all, but it sure seems to me not to be very good reasons. The question still remains - ARE YOU READY? Ready for what? For whatever is coming. The end is coming, sooner or later, for each one of us. I am being reminded of that more often as I get older. I have different thoughts about most everything in this stage of life. It is different, and more reflective for me at least, and sobering in a good way. I seem to consider everyone and everything from another perspective now. As a believer - I absolutely believe in God and His love shown to us through His Son Jesus - I look forward to a spiritual place that Jesus said He would prepare for us. He came as Light and Love into the world, to bring and share Life more abundantly. It is that preparation that should concern us. And it is far less complicated than all the complicated legal language and exacting formatting of who gets what of our “stuff.” Well, enough of these ramblings… I need to go get ready… Blessings, Everyone!

Paul Hayden is a Christian believer, and an American patriot, necessarily in that order. He is a student of the Bible, and is avidly interested in our role in the context of history, as understood through the heart and eyes of faith. Paul has lived and traveled somewhat widely, and now lives in the heartland of the U.S. (central Illinois), with his wife Donna - they have five grown children. Since December of 2016, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of www.ConservativeTruth.org."I was raised by a Christian minister, Kenneth Hayden, until his death when I was 10. Then my mom Bonnalee Hunt Hayden married a farmer. So I was raised in a very down-to-earth home. My faith has grown through the years, but both in conjunction with the institutional church and through small groups and individuals, including books as well as group settings, where deep, sincere faith is shared that aligns with Biblical truth."
