Brother Sun, Sister Moon - Movie About St. FrancisBy Paul Hayden September 1, 2025Last night, I watched an old movie again that was quite impactful for me when I first saw it in 1972, and remains one of my all-time favorites. My wife found it on DVD recently and got it for me. It is BROTHER SUN, SISTER MOON, which dramatizes the life of St. Francis. It was directed by Franco Zeffirelli, with music by Donovan, and is a flowery depiction of the transformation of Francis from the child of wealthy parents, to a sincere religious and spiritual believer recognized by the Church of Rome as a "saint." St. Francis heralded a return to the simplicity of the truth of the Gospel, away from the growing ecclesiastical monstrosity that the "church" had become. The St. Francis prayer, commonly attributed to him, is not found in his writings, but the concepts and thoughts reflect the heart of his faith. Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: Movies like this can be a real blessing, and help you find direction in your life.

Paul Hayden is a Christian believer, and an American patriot, necessarily in that order. He is a student of the Bible, and is avidly interested in our role in the context of history, as understood through the heart and eyes of faith. Paul has lived and traveled somewhat widely, and now lives in the heartland of the U.S. (central Illinois), with his wife Donna - they have five grown children. Since December of 2016, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of www.ConservativeTruth.org."I was raised by a Christian minister, Kenneth Hayden, until his death when I was 10. Then my mom Bonnalee Hunt Hayden married a farmer. So I was raised in a very down-to-earth home. My faith has grown through the years, but both in conjunction with the institutional church and through small groups and individuals, including books as well as group settings, where deep, sincere faith is shared that aligns with Biblical truth."
