Landmark Supreme Court Ruling Upholds The People's AgendaJune 30, 2025America has gone through a transformation in the battle for the hearts and minds of the people. There has been a marked change, or perhaps more an adjustment in thinking, in the elements of the culture war. If one were to inquire as to an explanation for this occurrence, was it an event, issue, or something else that created this opportunity for change? I would, without any equivocation and hesitation, have to point the finger at the 45th and now 47th President of the United States - Donald Trump. President Trump, since entering politics in 2015, has been a driving force and motivating factor in promoting traditional values, morality, and the Judeo-Christian ethic, each of these antithetical to the secularism that dominates today’s culture. The president’s initiatives and executive orders, to use the proverbial “slings and arrows of outrageous (Trump) fortune,” have been a potent influence in the battles of the culture war. The one issue, aside from abortion, that Democrats, the media, secularists, and the radical left-wing have embraced is the transgender ideology. It defies explanation and common sense that this lifestyle, whose population, although minuscule, commands so much attention and concern. This is not to say they’re not entitled to all the freedoms that America bestows, but it has gotten completely out of control. This issue has recently been addressed in a major case with far-reaching repercussions - United States vs. Skrmetti - brought before the Supreme Court. In a 6-3 landmark ruling, along what appears to be ideological lines, the Justices ruled in favor of the defendant, Skrmetti. The case involved the state of Tennessee law (SB1) that prohibits puberty blockers and hormone therapy treatments for minors. In a statement, Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti said that "the law had been supported by a bipartisan super majority of Tennessee's elected representatives who carefully considered the evidence and voted to protect kids from irreversible decisions they cannot yet fully understand.” There are 27 other states that have similar laws. The majority ruling was authored by Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the six conservatives on the court; Sonia Sotomayor wrote the scathing dissent for the three liberal Justices. In his opinion, Roberts wrote in part, “this case carries with it the weight of fierce scientific and policy debates about the safety, efficacy, and propriety of medical treatments in an evolving field.” In her dissent, Sotomayor wrote “the majority subjects a law that plainly discriminates on the basis of sex to mere rational review.” The White House, through its Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, issued a statement praising the Court's ruling and “a huge victory for America’s children. It’s obviously something this administration believes strongly in that young, minor children should not be allowed to be subjected to chemical castration and mutilation.” Both the White House and Chief Justice Roberts agreed the law did not violate the 14th Amendment, Equal Protection Clause, which is at the heart of the case. Roberts also commented that while the issue stirs intense debate, it’s ultimately for lawmakers - not activist judges - to decide. This statement, I believe, was directed at activist Judges, who have been thwarting the president’s policies. With few exceptions, the Court's ruling has been decried and caused outrage across the entirety of the Democratic Party, media, and LGBTQ community. The Senate minority leader, Chuck Schumer (D-NY), wrote, “Republicans’ cruel crusade against trans kids is all an attempt to divert attention from ripping healthcare away from millions of Americans.” What is confusing and makes little sense is that every survey and poll reveals a majority of the American people agree with the spirit of the Court’s ruling. And yet the Democratic Party insists on its liberal, progressive secular agenda that supports these anti-nature egregious procedures. We should not be surprised; this is the same party that supports abortion up to birth and infanticide.
