The Threat Of A Sleeper Cell

For those who keep up with intelligence matters when they are released to the public, and are familiar with the Spy vs. Spy world of the Cold War, you will recognize the terms for intelligence agents, such as going deep and sleeper cells. For the rest of us, terms like an agent going deep generally refers to an agent who assumes an identity and cuts off all ties to his real life. 

For a sleeper cell, an agent is let into another country, possibly as a refugee, and assumes a normal lifestyle, much the same as any other citizen. The sleeper cell agent will wait, possibly for years, before receiving a message from his country’s handlers as to when to take action against the host country. The sleeper agent may take on an unassuming job and fit in with the community, functioning like everyone else.

Depending on the scope of action the agent’s handlers have planned for their sleeper agent, which may run the gamut from collecting intelligence, to sabotage of power and water sources, cyber-attacks, and physical attacks. Another action the sleeper agent may take is that of a force multiplier, the term refers to an agent recruiting local citizens to the agent’s cause.        

One of the most dangerous sleeper cells is the one that wakes up and comes out shooting. We have seen what a lone wolf shooter can do in creating mass casualties; a sleeper cell made up of a trained group would be a disaster. This is a real concern, considering Joe Biden and his left-wing band of idiots opened up the border of the United States, letting in millions. We can only hope the border is sealed and ICE can round up as many as possible.
