Religion Emerges From The DarknessApril 21, 2025“Religion, Morality, and Knowledge, being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, and the means of education shall be forever encouraged.” [Northwest Ordinance - 1787] In last week’s article, I discussed a Pew Research survey on religion in America. This raised a question, whether politics plays any part in the acceptance and observance of religion among the people. The Biden administration revealed its disregard and alienation on numerous occasions, through its policies and legislative initiatives. It went so far as to put its imprimatur on having the Department of Justice/ FBI investigate the Catholic Church, and designate the faithful who worshiped at the Tridentine (Latin) mass as extremists. But the voters spoke out in the 2024 election, and the new Trump administration brought with it a renewed sense and positive attitude toward religion. One of President Trump’s first executive orders was the implementation of the White House Faith Office. This was introduced on February 6 (2025) at the White House before a gathering of clergy from various faiths. The attendees included the Reverend Franklin Graham, Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life, and Alveda King, niece of the Reverend Martin Luther King and pro-life activist. They applauded the president’s pro-religious and pro-life support. With the signing of the executive order, there came with it a number of initiatives that were implemented by President Trump, these included:
The acceptance and toleration of religious freedom and the rights of the people to worship without interference and opposition by the government are hallmarks of the Constitution. The differences in the Trump vs. Biden administrations and the presidents themselves are unmistakably clear. On January 20, 2025, when President-elect Donald Trump placed his hand on the Bible and swore before God and the American people that he would uphold the Constitution, religion reemerged from the darkness into the light of freedom, and was given new life.
