Trump Plays Three Dimensional ChessTrump smacks China with a big tariff.By Bob McCray April 14, 2025![]()
The standing of the United States in foreign trade markets has always been a blue-ribbon disaster. For decades, our trade negotiators have always put our country in the worst position possible. The United States let foreign governments have a low tariff for selling products at a low price in our country, and U.S. products would be penalized with a high selling price overseas. Granted, the purpose of tariffs is the protection of your country’s businesses and workers, but our trade negotiators didn’t protect our workers. If done in a fair manner in which both parties benefit, then you have a good business deal. Unfortunately, many countries like China will subsidize their country’s businesses, who dump their products in the U.S. market at an artificial low price that completely undercuts American businesses. This is the reason a lot of products are no longer made in the United States; our companies simply cannot compete at the artificially low prices. President Trump has decided it is time to level the playing field and has issued reciprocal tariffs to counter the other countries’ tariffs. Approximately 70 countries have indicated their willingness to negotiate and cut a deal with the United States. In the latest move in this three-dimensional chess game, President Trump has imposed a 90-day pause to give time to cut a deal and set a tariff of 145% for Communist China. This is the opportunity for all of the countries of the world to act as one to block China’s threats, both militarily and economically. Don’t be surprised if a caveat is included in the U.S. tariff deals with other countries, which will cut China off at the knees. If the rest of the world will work with the Trump administration and establish a fair-trade structure, China can be shut out, putting China into an economic bind and destroying the Chinese economy.
