The Hyper Bowl Or Super Bowl?By Paul Hayden February 10, 2025Our country is changing. Our world is changing. Constantly. Did you watch the Super Bowl? It may soon be called the “Stupor Bowl.” For all the hype, and there was plenty of hype, it seemed like a snoozer. I think I have seen more exciting tennis matches, or maybe even baseball games. It almost is like they are trying too hard, on everything. Everything has to be TO THE MAX, the extreme, the biggest and best - TO THE HYPE. From the cost of tickets, which for most of us normal people would not be a budget consideration, to the glamour clothing, to the utmost of name-dropping, to the extravagance of the foodstuffs at every turn - everything is pushed to the limit. But what about the central feature - the game? It's still just a game - there will be a winner and a loser. Obviously, the winner is the best, and the loser is…just the loser. And then it's over. The half-time show - another story. The first and majority of comments I saw were basically “worst ever.” Then the next day I see that we “missed” the story behind the “musical entertainment" that was anything but musical or entertainment. I guess some sort of feud was being taken to the heights of national display, but they should know that most of it was lost on those watching and listening. When you are trying to say something, say it loud and clear, and in the right manner. I will leave it to the reader to pursue further knowledge surrounding this seemingly ridiculous display on one of the biggest stages in the world. With all else that is going on in the world, it seems quite fringe and unworthy of much attention for me. Overall, I got the feeling that there is a shift in the sentiment of our country. Maybe it's just those who partake of the Super Bowl. It is definitely a social event highlight in our country and even the world. For those who might fuss about the investigations by Trump and company into government expenditures and waste right now, such that poor people are supposedly going to be deprived of food and medicine to the point of early deaths - maybe just have a Super Simple Bowl, and donate ALL of the money that would surround this event to those who need it. For 2025, it is estimated to exceed $18 Billion - with a B! Who would be able to talk everyone into it? So many problems we have, and the answers are so hard to come by.

My faith has grown through the years, but both in conjunction with the institutional church and through small groups and individuals, including books as well as group settings, where deep, sincere faith is shared that aligns with Biblical truth."
