Two Vastly Different Visions For America

October 28, 2024

The November election approaches, and the differences between the Republican and Democratic presidential and vice presidential candidates are profound - religiously, culturally, and politically. This election will be a turning point, and the fate of the nation and the American people will hang in the balance.

The Republican candidates, Donald Trump and his running mate J.D. Vance, represent a conservative right-of-center political philosophy. The Democrat ticket of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are progressive liberals, and are considered the most radical far-left progressive alliance in the nation’s history. The Republican ticket espouses traditional values, institutions, and the Judeo-Christian heritage of the nation, and promotes an America-first policy platform. The Democrats are inclined toward moral relativism, and are predominantly secularists and supportive of a globalist view.

According to current polling, the race for the presidency is a virtual dead heat. As candidates crisscross the country, paying particular attention to battleground states - Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, and North Carolina. Voting has already started in some states. Exit polling, thus far, is favoring the Republican candidates.

Democrats have resigned themselves to the fact that their candidates Harris and Walz are not making any headway, and are losing the confidence of a growing segment of the population. They have therefore, in an act of desperation, resorted to a new tactical agenda, and that is to label Donald Trump as a “menace, a threat to democracy, unstable, unhinged, and if elected will have governmental agencies and the military persecute and incarcerate his enemies.” As for J.D. Vance, he’s just “weird.”

As the title of this article reads, this campaign represents two vastly different visions of America. If we’re to believe Kamala Harris, she has on numerous occasions remarked that her values will not change. Yet she has changed her position on a number of issues, including immigration, border policy, fracking, drilling for renewable energy, law enforcement, and the economy.

This begs the question, if Harris’ values have not changed, then why would her positions on these issues change? Harris and Walz have also avoided any specific language on what their priorities would be, if in office. When asked by numerous media outlets, what she would do differently from the Biden policies, Harris cannot find an answer and will resort to her usual talking points.

Issues that I’ve listed above are considered by the American people to be the most important for the well-being of the nation. But there are cultural issues that will have either a positive effect, or lasting negative consequences, depending on what party takes control of the Presidency, Senate, and House of Representatives. Let’s take a brief look at some issues in question.

* IMMIGRATION/ BORDER Trump has stated that he will seal the southern border, reinstate the "Remain in Mexico Policy," and take measures to implement a massive deportation effort, beginning with those illegal migrants who have committed crimes. He will also resume building the wall. Harris has reversed herself from her open border position, and says she will seek to sign the bill that was put forth by Congress in early 2024, but was voted down by both Republicans and Democrats. This bill would allow over one million migrants a year into the country.

* ECONOMY Trump believes that Energy is the essential element in controlling inflation and improving the economy. He has on many occasions said, “We will drill, drill, drill baby,” meaning drilling for renewable energy, gas and oil, and resume fracking. He will reverse the Biden-Harris policy and establish deregulations where needed. The former president has stated he will use tariffs to coerce other nations into establishing a more fair import/export exchange.

Harris has been uncertain of her plans for the economy. She and her campaign have been dipping into the well of Trump’s ideas, especially on taxes, such as removing taxes on tips, social security benefits, and overtime. Many believe her inadequate position is because she has no knowledge and understanding of economic principles. Until recently, her campaign website had no concrete information on any issue, except abortion. To coin a phrase, she is, with the help of the media, flying by the seat of her ‘pantsuit.’

* FOREIGN POLICY Trump has an impressive policy record from his past presidency - replacing NAFTA, the Phase One trade deal with China, putting ISIS out of business, having killed terrorist leaders, moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, and the Abraham Accords. He has promised to negotiate a peace in the Ukraine-Russia war. He will also ask the EU to phony up and reimburse the U.S. for the munitions it has sent to Ukraine. As for the Middle East, Trump will once again impose sanctions on Iran; there will be no further monies going to this seat of terrorism. His support for Israel is above reproach.

Harris has been saddled with the Biden foreign policy, which she is attempting to distance herself from, without upsetting diehard Biden supporters. The Israel-Gaza War has been especially difficult to navigate; it is a muddled policy that is attempting to placate both sides. She has claimed to have been “the last person in the room,” when the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal decision was made. Harris, with the media’s best wishes, has given the people a less-than-cogent and acceptable foreign policy on just about all the issues, except abortion.

* CULTURE Abortion - The Trump-Vance position on abortion is with restrictions, except in cases of rape, incest, or the life of the mother. They will continue to remind the people that the states will decide abortion policy. This does not sit well with many in the Pro-life movement - the question is, will it affect their vote? Harris and Walz support abortion without any restrictions up till birth, and infanticide. When both candidates are questioned, they will skirt the issue and as usual go to the talking points.

The Harris-Walz platform fully supports the LGBTQ agenda. This includes transgender females, who are biological males, competing in girls' sports, sex change surgery, gender reassignment, puberty blockers for children, and gender-neutral restrooms and locker rooms. Suffice it to say, the Trump-Vance positions are the complete opposite of all I’ve listed, including removing inappropriate books from school libraries.

* EDUCATION Trump/Vance support school choice, Harris/Walz does not.

Please vote, and when you do, keep in mind the words of Ayn Rand:

“The uncontested absurdities of today are the accepted slogans of tomorrow. They come to be accepted by degrees, by precedent, by implication, by erosion, by default, by dint of constant pressure on one side and constant retreat on the other, until the day when they are suddenly declared to be the country’s official ideology.”
