Kamala Mania

July 29, 2024

Mania Definition: an excessive enthusiasm or desire; an obsession; or, mental illness marked by periods of great excitement or euphoria, delusions, and overactivity. (Oxford English Dictionary)

In February 1964, the Beatles arrived in the United States for the first time, touching off the phenomenon known as “Beatlemania” which lasted several years. Not everyone was caught up in the craziness. In fact, most newspapers and magazines at the time roundly criticized the Beatles, including their signature haircuts and their unique music. But these were in the minority overall, and even most of them came around as the Beatles’ music evolved to reach more of an adult audience.

What we’ve witnessed about the whirlwind switcheroo the Democrats pulled off recently is a sort of mania toward the campaign of Kamala Harris. The legacy media in all-too-predictable fashion has engaged in a makeover of the failed and unpopular vice president to the second coming of…Barack Obama? Nelson Mandela? Martin Luther King, Jr.? The point is, when someone is swept up in mania, they can achieve a popularity that far outsizes their actual accomplishments. Adding to this element is the media and Democrat politicians air-brushing Harris’s poor performance and radical positions on the issues. For instance, they insist that Harris was never really the “border czar,” but in fact, her only role was to determine the “root causes” of massive migrations of illegals to the U.S. As if the main cause wasn’t in front of everyone’s nose: free goodies for everyone who crossed the border.

As I warned in a previous article, we make a grave error in underestimating Harris or laughing her off (since she laughs so much in public, that’s not hard to do). Her ads are already positioning her as the “prosecutor” versus the “convicted felon” as she brazenly says she’ll put her record up against Donald Trump’s any time. The speech she gave after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shows that she can play both sides of the fence while striking a somber and, dare we say, presidential tone as multiple U.S. flags stand behind her. Just the fact that she can put sentences together in a relatively cogent manner puts her miles ahead of Joe Biden, who seems to be already relegated to a footnote now. Let’s face it, Harris is the media’s new shiny object. And as it was with Beatlemania, their hope is that voters will come around to their point of view about Harris as a desirable alternative to the much-despised Trump.

I’ve heard from numerous pundits in the week or so since Harris has been anointed by everyone on the left (with the possible and ironic exception of Barack Obama), about how Trump can counter-attack the mushroom cloud of inevitability the left is creating for Harris’s candidacy. Should he emphasize her ultra-left positions on the issues? Tie her whenever he can to the failures of the Biden administration? Call her on her complicity in aiding the years-long coverup of Biden’s fading mental acuity? If all of the above, which should be emphasized the most?

There is one other counter-attack, though, that may be the most effective of all. The party that has screeched for years now about Trump being an “existential threat to democracy” has engaged in a very anti-democratic move by anointing Kamala Harris as the presidential candidate, thus stripping the 14 million voters who voted for Biden in the sham primary of any say in who their nominee is. So, my suggestion to the Trump campaign is to throw this argument back every time they use the canard against him. It won’t stop them – especially on the issue of abortion – but it will dilute the power of their message. However, Trump needs to do better in avoiding the “authoritarian” label. For instance, his call for a mandatory one-year jail sentence for desecrating the American flag, while admirable in its intent, can also be viewed as an unconstitutional violation of the First Amendment. If Trump continues to press this position, the Dems will undoubtedly use this as an example of his desire to be a “dictator” bent on overthrowing the Constitution. He would be better off recommending jail time for defacing public property, which the ridiculous antisemitic protesters so often do as a matter of course.

The recent actions of the Democrat machine demonstrate that they will do anything - and I mean anything - to win, especially when it comes to defeating Trump. The lack of transparency in answering questions about the grotesque failure to protect Trump from the assassination attempt are only feeding conspiracy theories that the failure might have been intentional. How else could the Secret Service blunder so badly in protecting a former president and current presidential candidate? Whatever the shooter’s motives, and however he was able to carry out his mission and fail by only a fractional amount, the Trump campaign along with Republican politicians need to keep pressing for answers right up to the election – and beyond if that’s what it takes.
